On 14th of June, the Malta Council for Science and Technology in collaboration with the European Commission Representation in Malta, has organized an information session to present the Enhanced European Innovation Council (EIC).
The EIC pilot was first introduced in 2018 under the current Horizon 2020 programme. Building on that experience, European Commission now introduces enhanced funding schemes supporting great ideas and innovation. These include:
- EIC Pathfinder Pilot – comprises FET-Open and FET-Proactive and offers grants of up to €4 million to promote collaborative, inter-disciplinary research and innovation on science-inspired and radically new future technologies,
- EIC Accelerator Pilot – builds on the SME Instrument Phase II and provides grant-only support (up to €2,5 million) as well as support in the form of blended finance (combining grant (up to €2,5 million) with an equity investment of up to €15 million). It supports high-risk, high-potential SMEs with potential to develop and commercialise new products, services and business models that could drive economic growth and shape new markets in Europe and worldwide.
From our end, Anamaria Magri Pantea was invited to contribute by sharing from her experience as expert evaluator engaged by the European Commission to assess such project proposals and monitor their implementation.
